The Interfaith Council of Jacksonville resolved to create and maintain an annual award to be known as the Jacksonville Interfaith Award.  This award is inspired by the dedication to the higher principles of interfaith dialogue exhibited by Dr. Duane Dumbleton.   Dr. Dumbleton, a long-time member of the Interfaith Council of Jacksonville, served the council in many ways including as President.   Dr. Dumbleton’s soft voice could be counted on to lift up the council’s commitment to developing a more peace-filled community, nurturing religious tolerance, and promoting of a generosity of spirit.

 The Jacksonville Interfaith Award will be expressed in three ways: 
    
1.       The award recipient shall be invited to attend the March/April meeting of the council where his or her attributes shall be named before the council, and he or she shall be given the privilege of addressing the Council; 
    
2.       a commemorative plaque shall be presented to award recipient; and 
    
3.       a monetary prize in the amount of $500 shall be awarded to the recipient.

 

 The recipient of the award shall be a person who during the past year has exhibited the qualities and purposes of the Interfaith Council of Jacksonville.  Nominations may be made to the President of the Interfaith Council of Jacksonville.  The Executive committee of the council shall serve as the selection committee, in consultation with the Executive Director of the Northeast Florida Center for Community and Justice and the Chairperson of the Mayor’s Committee on Faith Based Concerns.

The criteria which shall be considered in making the selection of the award recipients shall include: 

  •  The individual shall have led or initiated activity which expressly encourages interfaith dialogue and/or
  • have brought together people of various faiths in demonstration of the benefits of interfaith relations and/or
  • have embodied in his or her life a  commitment to interfaith work
